Holy Dormition Church and Cemetery • Cahokia Township • Macoupin County, Illinois

We have endeavored to put together a memorials list—and memorial pages when possible—of members of the Holy Dormition parish community, broadly speaking. This directory includes past parishioners (and spouses) who have passed, and also those buried in the Holy Dormition Cemetery. We strive for accuracy, but complete information is not always available to us.

Holy Dormition Cemetery is located at the south edge of Benld on Illinois Route 138. The cemetery occupies the northern section of Benld Cemetery, utilizing its entrance.

Please note that for a woman who has taken the last name of her husband, her main listing (with the link to her memorial page when possible) will be according to her marital last name in the alphabetical table. For married women we have adopted the now common convention of listing the maiden name in italics after the first name. For example, if Jane Maiden married John Doe, her main listing would look like this: Doe, Jane Maiden.

In addition to the above, we can sometimes add an unconventional, second listing for married women that shows them in relation to their family of origin (if other family members are listed in the memorial pages). An example of this format looks like this: Maiden, Jane [Doe]. This second listing makes it easier to locate and see other members of a family cluster together, but the link to the memorial page will be from the main listing according to the married last name.
