Peter Motika Sr. was born in Austria in 1881. He married Paraska "Pearl" Cuca, and they were long-time residents of Benld, IL. Peter worked as a coal miner at the Sawyerville mine until his retirement. He and his wife were members of Holy Dormition Orthodox Church in Benld for many decades.
Peter was a resident of Gillespie near the end of his life. Peter died at 97 years of age on Monday, June 18, 1979 at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife, Paraska. Peter was survived by three sons (Frank of Girard, Peter Jr. of Carlinville, and Paul of Benld), six daughters (Ann Stengel of Belleville, Anastasia Dunmire of Benld, Julia Katrenich of Benld, Mary Redeffer of Gray Summit, MO, Olga Massa of Wilsonville, and Millie Arden of Gillespie), and 11 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held for Peter on Wednesday June 20, 1979 at the Holy Dormition Orthodox Church in Benld. Burial took place at the Holy Dormition cemetery in Benld.
