Life and Service
Anna Muich, born Anna Chulick on October 27, 1914, in Benld, Illinois, was a devoted member of the Holy Dormition Orthodox Church for nearly a century. Known to many in her life simply as "Ann," she passed away on January 19, 2008, at the Joliet Area Community Hospice Home, leaving behind a legacy of quiet dedication and devotion to family and friends.
Born to Wasyl and Christina (Chuhta) Chulick, Anna was baptized shortly after her birth at the Holy Dormition Orthodox Church in Benld. She spent the majority of her life in the Benld area, residing in her later years in Shorewood, Illinois. Ann was a steady presence in her local parish, and an active participant in the life of the church. She served as the recording secretary for the parish sisterhood.
Ann was a hardworking member of the local economy. She found employment with the Benld Public School System, serving in the food services department until her retirement. Alongside her husband, Joseph M. Muich, whom she married on October 2, 1934, in Waterloo, Illinois, she also owned and operated Muich's Tavern. This dual life of public service and family entrepreneurship showed her versatility and strong work ethic. The couple remained together for nearly fifty years until Joseph’s passing in 1984. Ann was also a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union Lodge 217 in Benld.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Wasyl and Christina, as well as several siblings: Eva Halechko, Mary Luce, John W. Chulick, Helen Rossetti, and Walter J. Chulick, along with three siblings who died in infancy.
At the time of her death in 2008, Anna was survived by her daughter, Cheri Kline of Shorewood, IL; her granddaughter, Christina White of Channahon, IL; and her grandsons, Cameron Kline of Philadelphia, PA and Michael Kline of Shorewood. Her lineage continued through three great-grandchildren: Zachary, Nicolas, and Carson White.
Her funeral service was held on January 23, 2008, at the Holy Dormition Orthodox Church in Benld. Officiating clergy included the Very Reverend Father Paul Waters, the Very Reverend John Matusiak, and Rev. Joseph Kopka of St. Joseph's Orthodox Church in Wheaton. She was laid to rest later that same day at the Holy Dormition Cemetery in Benld. Anna Muich’s life, spanning from the early 20th century into the new millennium, stands as a testament to the enduring values of faith, family, and community service in the Benld area.
