Olga Stinnett, mother, beloved aunt and longtime educator of Carlinville, Illinois, passed away in the evening on November 18, 2011, at St. John's Hospice in Springfield, IL. She was eighty-seven years old.
Born Olga Zebrun on March 16, 1924, in Benld, she was the daughter of Joseph and Rose (Kehart) Zebrun. The Zebrun family was deeply rooted in the Holy Dormition parish community: Joseph and Rose are buried in the Holy Dormition Cemetery, as is Olga's brother William. Olga herself appears in the parish baptismal register. Growing up in Benld alongside her two brothers, Olga graduated from Benld High School in 1942.
Her academic path took her first to Illinois College in Jacksonville for two years of study, and then to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she completed a degree in Commerce. On June 21, 1946, she married Dr. William Ray Stinnett at the Holy Dormition Orthodox Church in Benld.
During the Korean War, Olga joined her husband in Japan, where William served as a dentist in the United States Air Force at the rank of Captain, stationed at Tachikawa Airbase. After his military service ended, the couple settled in Carlinville, where William established a dental practice and Olga embarked on a career in education. She taught kindergarten in the Carlinville School District for twenty years, retiring in 1989.
Olga was remembered by family as a gifted cook and a gracious host, someone who took genuine pleasure in preparing meals for those around her. She was also an enthusiastic reader. Her civic and professional affiliations included the Carlinville United Methodist Church, the Retired Teachers Association, and the honorary educators' sorority Alpha Delta Kappa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Rose Zebrun, and by both of her brothers, William and George Zebrun. At the time of her death, she was survived by her husband, Dr. William R. Stinnett; her son, William R. Stinnett, Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri; her daughter, Jeanne Stinnett Hughes of New Orleans, Louisiana; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Her funeral service was held on Saturday, November 26, 2011, at Davis-Anderson Funeral Home in Carlinville. Burial followed at Holy Dormition Cemetery in Benld.
