Portrait of David L. Wasylenko

Notes

Born on December 24, 1960, in Litchfield, Illinois, David Lewis Wasylenko, Sr. was the son of Michael and Shirley (Garner) Wasylenko. David was raised in the Benld area and in the Holy Dormition church, surrounded by an extended Wasylenko family that had been part of the parish since its earliest decades. At 56 years of age, he passed away on May 9, 2017, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in Saint Peters, and was laid to rest in Holy Dormition Cemetery, alongside his parents and numerous other relatives.

As a young adult, David left the Benld area in pursuit of educational and career opportunities. David's education reflected a methodical, self-directed mind. He began with a focus on computer science at DeVry Institute in Chicago around 1980, then broadened his studies to mathematics and economics at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville by 1984, and pursued studies in information technology at the University of Missouri–Saint Louis starting in 1985. He continued to engage in coursework there over subsequent years, staying current with a rapidly evolving field.

Professionally, David spent nearly three decades as president and co-owner of Pick Professionals, Inc., a company specializing in software development for multiple business applications. Under his leadership, the firm served clients across a range of industries for twenty-nine years. Beyond his work in technology, David was a licensed airplane and helicopter pilot. David was also a member of St. Charles Church.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Michael Wasylenko (1926–2000) and Shirley Wasylenko (1930–2004). At the time of his death, he was survived by his children: Megan Wasylenko and Andrea Wasylenko, both of Saint Peters, Missouri, and David L. Wasylenko of St. Helens, Oregon; and his step-sons, Brent and Bradley Sweeney. He was also survived by his grandchildren, Alyssa Ross, Gavin Wasylenko, and Jackson Wasylenko; his siblings, Michael R. Wasylenko of Gillespie, Illinois, Jon M. Wasylenko and Karen L. Brown of Cape Coral, Florida, Gary A. Wasylenko of Saint Peters, Missouri, and Kathy M. Wasylenko of Cape Coral, Florida; his significant other, Gina Barro; and his former spouse, Laurie Veschak.

His funeral service was held on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie, Illinois. Burial followed at Holy Dormition Cemetery in Benld.

"Locust Street Resource Center formerly Macoupin County Mental Health was truly blessed the day David walked through our doors offering to donate his time and expertise to develop software for the agency. This began a nearly 20 year relationship with our agency that has impacted so many lives including our staff and the thousands of clients we have served through the years. His desire to help those in need and his appreciation of the services we provided were the foundation for David's generosity.... Please know that David's generosity will not be forgotten and that his legacy lives on in those we serve. Thank You David for your years of support—your easy smile and willingness to help will truly be missed." — Comment left online by A.K., Carlinville, IL on May 15, 2017
